Interesting Antarctica Fact of the Day

Did you know that a group of penguins walking on land is called a waddle? I can see why! But in the water, they have a different name. Want to to guess what a group of swimming penguins is called? Hint...it's not a waddle.

Shout Out

Today's shout out goes to a very special group of third graders. Ms. Hardoy's Otters from Chico Country Day School! You have all been asking great questions, and I appreciate all the help your Brownie Otter has given me. Keep up the great work!

It Begins!

It's been an amazing experience so far being in Antarctica. The breathtaking scenery, the interesting people, and the enthusiasm for science are all noteworthy. However, I came here to see what real scientists are doing . Tomorrow marks the beginning of our team's main experiment.

Good guess. A rockery is actually more like a nursery. It is where they lay and incubate their eggs and raise their chicks. Do you have another guess? Here's a clue..... They float.

Thanks for the shout out! We are so excited to see Brownie! We think it is called a herd or a swim! Is it hard to sleep down there with how light it is all of time now? Do you like working in the lab or on the ice better? Have fun!

Ahh...a swim is really close. Think of an object that floats and can carry people. ...but not a boat!
It's not too hard to sleep even with 24 hour sun because I have really dark shades over my window. It is kind of startling to work late inside...to like 11 pm, and then head outside to bright sunshine. I loved working outside, but I haven't really been much help yet. I am looking forward to starting our experiments tomorrow so I can really help out.
