At least once a week I’m asked by someone “So… when are you going to Antarctica?” or “Aren't you supposed to be in Antarctica?” When I tell them the expedition isn't until March 2015 (and plug my journal), I’m usually met with a: “That’s a long time to wait.” But waiting is the last thing I've been doing!
While my expedition is still over 6 months away, I've been busy. It may seem as though not much is happening yet, but there’s quite a lot going on behind the scenes. Though at this stage, most of it is paperwork.
There's a lot of paperwork to do in preparation…There is a lot of paperwork to do just to join the expedition as an Educator (and I haven’t even started the medical forms yet…). I can’t even imagine all the paperwork my Researcher must be doing to organize all of this. In addition to the expedition paperwork, there is also the budget proposal and activity drafts I've been editing and submitting (and re-submitting… and re-re-submitting) for approval so I can do all the fun stuff.
What fun stuff is currently in the works you ask?
- Scavenger Hunts
- An Art Contest
- Giveaways
- Outreach Events
- A Teacher Workshop
- Public Science Demonstrations
- And More!
I've already got the flyers ready to go!
Some of the flyers and stickers I've prepared for Outreach Events.Thankfully I've been getting some help with the prep work.
