Visiting the WonderKids
Over the past couple months I’ve gotten to work with some amazing kids from the USC WonderKids program. The afterschool program, offered at several schools around downtown Los Angeles, introduces kids to different science careers. I visited several schools to teach the WonderKids more about polar science.
The students at each school had already gone through several lessons about polar science and they shared their knowledge with me when I came to visit. They taught me about igloos and polar bears and how animals stay warm in freezing temperatures. They were so excited to tell me what they knew and learn more. They were particularly curious about how people survive in the extreme weather conditions in Antarctica. The Wonderkids had absolutely amazing questions. And after the lessons, we all had a great time testing out the Extreme Cold Weather Gear and what it takes to be comfortable in Antarctica.
