Journal Entry
Talk about a varied day! We started with sessions on field safety, then risk management, and finally how to use satellite phones. This was followed by a trip to the Polar Services warehouse for a lesson in (clothing) layering, and finally after dinner we went to the Ice Park to see both finished and in-progress ice sculptures. Now it’s 9:30 P.M. and I need to do this journal entry. Grading a few of the papers I brought to Fairbanks with me wouldn’t be a bad thing either.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m going to focus on the pictures for this journal entry. Here they are:
PolarTREC teachers having a laugh after a skit. When you are in a remote field location, the satellite phone may be your only contact with the world beyond your field camp. Here a fisherman celebrates a successful catch of ice fish. The slides at the ice sculpture park. These were a kick to go down!
