Journal Entry

Hey everyone! Just a quick update; I'm unable to upload pictures right now because my laptops need to be cleared to go on the network. Hopefully, that will happen tomorrow at some point.

We were delayed out of Christchurch due to strong crosswinds, but it was a FULL flight that eventually left. Actually, this flight was comprised of primarily Air Force personnel, so we civilians were in the minority.

There were several highlights, but being able to go up on the flight deck as we were over the continent was the BEST! My heart came up in my throat and nearly jumped out of my chest at the same time. It was a pretty impressive expanse that we were flying over...no doubt.

After a bit over four hours in the air, it was show time...except for one slight problem. There were penguins on the runway that didn't want to move! Only here, right??

It was actually pretty balmy when we got off the plane--10 degrees F. Yes...10 above. I was actually a bit warm. (Yeah...how often will I say that down here?!?)

After being herded into our Antarctic limos, we headed to a briefing, then to pick up our gear, then to housing...then to dinner.

I must say that this is quite the bustling place, full of an ecclectic group of individuals from so many backgrounds and experiences.

And, tomorrow it REALLY begins...we're off to drill holes at Cape Armitage. Happy Camper School on Friday and Saturday with much more to follow!

I'll post pics as soon as my laptops clear!!
