Journal Entry

*Some folks say that life is just a veil of tears Not me man I can't pack enough into these years I don't care if its spring summer winter or fall Make no fuss about the seasons, 'cause I like 'em all

Here on earth I’ll have my cake Gonna eat it too, make no mistake 'cause if it's a question of to be or not to be I'll put on my boots and go see what I can see

Great, great, tune Crash Test Dummies- thanks *

****Business First Germinators Soak your Seeds tonight! And remember to check in with the Ask the Team section of this journal. Don't forget to log in.

According to schedule with FIU team, Paulo says Wednesday’s are open to possibility. First he gave us 4 wheeler training – I am still waiting for my certificate! It was fun, but important to remember safety.  Many folks in Barrow use them as a means of transportation as well as trucks. Paulo reminded us that if we do drive the 4 wheeler on the road that we are the little ones out there and to be careful. Jose requested a helmetSmart move!

4 Wheeler Training YEE HAWe learned how to drive a 4 Wheeler which is one of the major ways to get around in Barrow.

We ran some errands in the morning – FYI the Post Office **in Barrow opens at **1pm on Wednesdays.

Paulo and Jose worked on data collection and then we had lunch.

Paulo thought we should head  to the field to check things out. He wanted to collect data from his weather station and Jose worked on the water table information. I helped Jose.

The Water TableJose Luciani measures the water table.

It was pretty uneventful, but important data was collected. Every bit adds to piece of the puzzle. Plus it is always nice to be outside.

I love that feeling of putting on my boots to see what I can see….hence the song for the journal entry.

As we were planning to head back to the truck we ran into Denver Holt and Colleen Bitter. They were out checking owl **nests again. We **hustled to meet them at the nest. It was so cool to see a nest.

Snowy Owl NestThis nest is one of at least 22 in the area. So far this one has 4 eggs, there could be more to come - stay tuned.

The male and female Snowy Owl watched closely and chattered a bit.  We also stumbled apon a Spectacled Eider. We aren't sure if this one is feeling to good. We will see if we see her today!

After dinner there was a lecture. Two graduate students presented their research. Very Interesting one of them dealt  with coastal erosion which is a big topic in South Florida.

After the lecture there was a birthday party.. ahh to be 22 years old! Hard to believe that I am 22 years older than that!

There is never a dull moment in Barrow!
