*Rollin down a backwoods Tennessee byway, one arm on the wheel, holdin my Lover with the other: a sweet, soft, southern thrill. Worked hard all week; got a little jingle on a Tennessee Saturday night. Couldn’t feel better: I’m together with my Dixieland delight.
Whitetail buck deer munchin on clover, redtail hawk settin on a limb, a Chubby old groundhog, croakin bullfrog, free as the feelin in the wind. Home grown country girl gonna give me a whirl on a Tennessee Saturday night. Lucky as a seven livin in heaven with my Dixieland delight.

Yeah Rob is here!
Rob finaly made it to Barrow, just in time for the cookout. He wound up coming in at 7:15pm, instead of 10:15am - the fog was too thick to land. After some delay – yes Rob is here!
I arrived at the airport ready to see Rob after 3 weeks and then the announcement came that the plane had been circling and tried to land a couple of times. Unfortunately the fog was too thick --- ah he was so close! So he had to fly to Anchorage, 3 hours away, then layover than go to Fairbanks and layover, then he got to Barrow at 7:15pm. I have heard that the fog could get this bad up here.
It was **eerie fog **that put me in a state of disorientation while I was driving, but cool just the same.
I was supposed to ride on the BASC 4th of July Float with the San Diego girls, but instead drove the truck for the Grand Rapids group. I was sort of in a melancholy **mood. It was fun though and great to see the town out ready to receive **candy thrown from the floats **and shouting "Happy 4th of July” -Candy, candy and more candy whole big candy bars, I even heard they were **throwing toothbrushes. That is funny and appropriate with all of that candy!
Over 20 floats darned the streets of Barrow, throwing candy to kiddos. I hear toothbrushes and footballs were part of the mix too! Renee Carlton and Lauren Hall of San Diego worked very hard on this 4th of July float, with a little help from their friends! We had a cookout with the researchers and luckily Rob was in time for the **Halibut **– ummmm and yummy and delicious.. the **best I have had since **I have been in Barrow!
It was fun to be in such a diverse part of our country for the 4th of July. What a great connection I felt! All people in the world have their own personalities, customs and traditions, partly as a result of geographic location. But when all is said and done, these are MY PEOPLE – MY Fellow AMERICANS **– all the way up in the Arctic Circle eating seal, whale and caribou on a regular basis. **WOW **– I am so thrilled that I have met more of **MY PEOPLE and have gotten to share a bit of their lives and in OUR Country’s Glory!
Roxanne Lewis was nice enough to lend her beautiful parka's (atigi) and whaling crew shirt for the festivities. * Notice the mittens (argaag)! photo by Sergio Vargas This Atigi/parka is so beautiful. I love it and would love to have one of my own, as well as the boots, gloves and ear muffs too! P.S. I received this note from my cousin Diane in response to July 3, 2008 journal. Thanks for reading and thanks for letting me know that those in New Orleans are living off of the land – water! Great times and my mouth is watering!
Hello Beth (and Rob),
I hope Rob's trip was smooth and y'all are enjoying Barrow's beach! I wanted to let you know that we had boiled crabs yesterday that Jimmy and his friend Eric caught in the spillway (5 1/2 doz) and we barbequed red fish that Jimmy and Eric caught in Point Aux Chene (near Houma). It felt like old times. Sadly, we threw away the crab shells!! I am really enjoying reading about your adventures. Thanks for taking the time to share this with everyone. I was shocked to see Jimmy, Kenny, and I in your journal!! Thanks for thinking of us. ***
Love ya, Diane
