This adventure is about to begin. I leave Fairbanks early Saturday morning, May 18. That is soon! I am leaving school just before the start of "Summer" break. Note there is still a sizable snow bank in front of the school.
Randy Smith Middle School in Fairbanks, Alaska is where I have been teaching science for the past 12 yearsAlthough I will miss the last few days with my students, I am excited about the possibility of being able to communicate with them live from the Kevo Research Station in northern Finland. I hope to convey the message that although a lot of good learning happens inside classrooms:
The entryway to my current classroom. I ask students to bring in photos of themselves engaged in science (and this year math as well), which results in some great action shots!… it stems from and is closely connected to research that happens in the field! I am really looking forward to having students of all ages learn (virtually) right along with me.
Please Stay in Touch…
Just a reminder to my students (and anyone who wants to follow the expedition), you can sign up right on this webpage for email notification whenever I post a journal entry. Come back often!
