Well, my departure to Antarctica is just around the corner. Scrambling to get everything in order get ready to go. I'm running some final tests on the journal here to make sure everything is set. I still have lots of really nice pictures from Alaska that I promised I would post.
Greetings from the Ice Sculpture Park! I wore my warmest ice coat this evening. We looked at some of them at school when I returned. The ice sculpture competition was amazing and we only saw the small stuff. I'm posting some of my favorites up here today.
The sculptors were so incredibly focused on their workAlso I'll be posting some video of a small snow storm we stumbled into in Fairbanks. The folks from ARCUS kept telling us it doesn't really snow hard in Fairbanks, but our week up there we witnessed record amounts of snow. It was great, though it put a damper on our plans to watch the Northern Lights.
The closer you looked at this, the more detail you see. I'm not even sure how they did this. And oh, yes, many were asking about the mystery photo. It was the nasal cavity of a reindeer. The inner structure is structured such that it helps to warm the cold, cold air as it enters and allow for it to be warmed by the time it reaches the lungs. The body is always trying to keep the core warm. Pretty amazing stuff. I would challenge my students to tell me what lab it was that we did that was based on a similar concept. Hmmmm....think hard and let me know.
