We arrived at Palmer Station today and quickly got to work unpacking the supplies and equipment for our research. Tomorrow we head out for our first fishing expedition. As we got close to Palmer we traveled through the Gerlasche Straits.

Vicinity of Anvers Island, AntarcticaThe sun was just rising as we pulled into Palmer Station. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get any pictures from the Gerlasche Straits.

Unfortunately, it was dark and only lit by the moonlight. Yet even then the beauty was striking - snow covered mountains, glaciers, little icebergs. Tiny by Antarctica standards, but if I were to see one of these 'tiny' things in Lake Michigan I would be deeply concerned. I haven't much time right now to take you on a tour of Palmer.

That will be tomorrow. I will leave you with this video we shot from the deck of the R/V? Laurence M. Gould. http://

We had an exceptionally calm crossing, but as you can see - it's all relative. We had just entered the South Atlantic Ocean and the waves were picking up.
