We are officially transferred onto Palmer Station and will be here until our next fishing trip in May. The winch will be repaired in Punta Arenas so we can trawl and catch the icefishes that eluded us so far.
Here is a bird's eye view from the glacier. That is Palmer Station below. It was a beautiful day. Unusually beautiful I am told. I hear this stretch of gorgeous weather may be coming to an end soon.We went through the Neumeyer Channel again which is stunningly beautiful. As we neared the station the crew came out to get the ship ready to dock.
It was a pretty cold morning as the crew prepared to dock at Palmer Station.Upon arrival we had to quickly transfer the fish into the aquarium at the station.
We transferred the fish into a series of tanks once we got to Palmer Station. That is Lisa Crockett with the net.Again, the marine techs were on top of it and the transition went pretty smoothly.
Here is Lisa Crockett getting ready to move the fish into their new lakefront home.It was an incredibly clear, warm, sunny day so three of us took a hike up the glacier. I think these pictures speak for themselves in terms of the expansive beauty - but they certainly don't do it justice.
It felt great to get out and hike after being on the ship for a week. Narrow staircases and treadmills are no comparison to hiking up a glacier on a beautiful day. Besides the view of the doorway at the top of the stairs doesn't quite compare to Palmer Station. We weren't the only ones enjoying the sun. This seal was lounging around. It seemed to have some itch that needed some serious scratching as she rolled around in the snow and scratched at her back and neck for at least 20 minutes. I took a ridiculous amount of pictures of this.
This seal was enjoying the sunny day as much as we were. It's deceiving though. They are out here just about whatever the weather is.Who knew ice, snow, and an itchy seal could be so captivating? I'm posting one of my favorites right now. I think you all will enjoy this short clip of this fur seal trying to satisfy an itch. http://
The ship sails tomorrow afternoon. I suspect it will be an odd feeling as we watch the LMG sail from the pier leaving us behind at the end of the earth.
