Montana's Glory; Glacier National Park
We drove to the west side of the park to avoid the congestion that one finds on the Going to the Sun road. We camped at Bowman Lake campground which was down a very rutted road that only trucks should travel - though we did see many intrepid campers in very small cars bouncing their way to a camp. According to the park literature, all the carnivores still survive here in the park; grizzlies, black bear, cougars, and wolves. We did not meet any on our hike. Maybe next time. The lakes are breath taking (cold too - I went for a quick dip) and the wildflowers, again, thrill.

My toes endured a 12 mile loop up to three alpine lakes; Quartz, Middle Quartz and Lower Quartz was perhaps a little too ambitious for my toes. The grimace on my face is evidence of this.
Karen and Quartz Lake HikeGoing to the Sun Road
Every traveler must take the road through the Park which traverses the high peaks and provides glorious views.
Fauna of the Day Mountain Goats; One must venture off the road, start early and hike in and you will be guaranteed to see some mountain goats and up-close and personnel. In fact -these are not actually goats at all! According to Ben Gad, author of Hand Book of the Canadian Rockies, the closest relatives of this "goat" are mountain antelopes of Asia, the serows and gorals.
