Less Elusive than Caribou

Whether walking across the tundra, or sitting by a lake, binoculars at the ready, we were able to watch the interplay of bird life busy at work in the sub-arctic land.

A bald eagle harassed by arctic terns and gulls. Trumpeter Swans maneuvering their five cygnets from one grassy bay to another. Spruce grouse and ptarmigan darting across our path, cheeping their children to safety.

A mother golden plover urgently calling to her babe to get the heck off the path, with very little success. The baby plover just kept moving along in front of us for quite some time, much to mother's distress.

A brief encounter with a terribly long-beaked bird, with a charming name of whimbrel.

And perhaps a snow bunting...but I am not sure I identified this one correctly.

Beautiful bird photos Karen! Your "red-necked phalarope" is actually a golden plover and a lovely one at that! You should find phalaropes in the ponds instead.
