This is my last day here in Alaska. I have spent most of the day running around getting all the little things that need to be done. It has been a very great experience for me being up here. The people have been friendly and supportive and the weather has been more than cooperative. I am sad at leaving but extremely happy about getting back to my students, friends and family.
Over the week I will be posting journals on a less than daily basis. I will not post tomorrow due to the twelve hours of traveling and wanting to spend the remainder of the day with my family. Most of the journals from here on will focus on my students, which I will talk about on Monday, and what we have learned from this experience with Dr. Natali and her experiments as well as from PolarTREC and our outreach efforts. The physical part of this expedition is coming to a close but there is still much work to be done to bring this experience to the classroom and the public. I will continue to share with you also the ideas, activities and lessons that are developed from this trip, as well as the continued support and visitation from Dr. Natali and the Healy Crew. I wish Dr. Natali continued success in her field and her efforts to conduct research. I send my best wishes to Christian for his plans of building in New Mexico with a degree that he can put to good use, to Elizabeth for her future with the University of Florida and her marathon in September, and to Andres for his future plans for life. I want also to thank Mike and Corine for their hospitality and friendship, and I wish them many more happy years together.
I didn't get any photos today, but I did pick up some small pins and things for the students. I know I don't have enough of everything for everybody so I will be making decisions on how this will all be handed out. One way is by seeing who has been keeping up with the journals. I have still not received a correct set of answers for naming all of the skulls from a couple of weeks ago. I also would like to throw out a new challenge for anyone out there. I have entered several photos from some of the other journals. The first three students that can put them in the correct order that they appeared during the expedition will be in line for something.
