I began searching opportunities for high school teachers to go to Antarctica and found PolarTREC. The application process was a little overwhelming, but remembering every journey begins with a single step, I began tackling the mountain of question that is the application and soon felt I had wrote responses that would give me a good opportunity to move on process. I had not mention to anyone that I had applied until I found out that I had made it passed the first round and then just mentioned it in passing to my science teacher colleagues. On the afternoon of the interview, I set up my computer 20 minutes early, I hate to be late, but that is a story for another time. I noticed that the setting sun was washing out my face, so I quickly moved to another couch in the living room, unfortunately their was no outlet available for me to plug in my computer, so I just absent mindedly unplugged something from the outlet, gasp, I had accidently unplugged the wireless router, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle (shout out to the Lorax). I had about 5 minutes until my interview was to begin and all I could do is sit there with bated breath for the router to reconnect. When I was finally able to enter the Zoom meeting, I was the last person to enter. Right then and there, I thought I had blown it, but the interview began well and soon I felt like I was making a connection with Janet, Judy and my research team. My interview went long and I had a feeling I might just receive this tremendous honor. Janet and Judy were very professional and said I would hear something back in a few days. Unknowingly, I checked my email later that evening and noticed I had a message from PolarTREC saying the research group would like to extend an offer for me to join them in May, smile, smile, smile!!!!!!!!!!
