We got into Puenta Arenas yesterday, Monday, in the afternoon. We were taken straight to our hotel, Jose Nogueira Hotel. It is a very beautiful place inside and out.
The beautiful exterior of our hotel. Marcy and I are sharing a room again, but this time we have a little living room on one side of our room. We have nice little twin beds and Marcy is showing them off. After getting our luggage all settled, we took a little walk around the town and had some dinner. Here are some of the sights in Puenta Arenas.
A famous and lucky statue in the middle of the town square. For good luck while at sea you must rub the statue’s toe. Around the statue were many kids doing awesome tricks on their skateboards. Skateboards are even cool in Chile!Seven of us went to dinner together at a little restaurant with a variety of meals. One person ordered a meal that is considered the "nachos” of Puenta Arenas. It has French fries instead of chips and includes cut up hot dogs—weird!
The crazy form of nachos in Puenta Arenas! All of us were ready for bed after our big dinner. The next morning we had a scheduled appointment to get all of our ECW- Extreme Cold Weather gear at 8:30. It was only a short walk to the clothing warehouse at the boat port. Our research ship, the Palmer, was already at the port along with a couple other boats.
We then spent the next few hours picking out and trying on all kinds of clothing. It was funny to see myself in all the different clothes. You can have a good laugh at my pictures.
These are the clothes issued for going outside in the extreme cold. These are the clothes issued for working on the deck outside, the rain gear will help keep us dry.Now we made it back to our hotel and are getting some much needed rest.
Hi Zilker students—I hope everything is going great. I miss you all very much and expect you are being excellent for Mrs. Scott!
