For the past two days, I have been in Orlando, FL at the Florida Association of Science Teachers (FAST) statewide conference. The FAST conference brings science teachers from all around the state together to share ideas and experiences. It has been a great opportunity for me to learn and to network with many great teachers.
PolarTREC teachers Adeena Teres and Steve Kirsche present at the FAST Convention. The main purpose of my trip down here was to meet up with fellow PolarTREC teacher Adeena Teres to share our Arctic experiences and how PolarTREC resources can be used in any classroom. Adeena also had an expedition to Greenland this year. She was part of Operation Ice Bridge, a NASA run Polar data collection program. You can read more her expedition at https://www.polartrec.com/expeditions/operation-icebridge-2017.
I think our presentation went well. After speaking about our individual expeditions, we shared the lesson plans we each created. We also spent some time talking about about ARCUS and the PolarTREC program itself. There were several teachers that seemed very interested in applying for the program in the future. All in all, it was another great chapter in my PolarTREC experience.
At the presentation, teachers were able to try a lesson about ice cores.
