How Do You Prepare?

VroomVroom vroom! Snow machining in the warehouse :)

How do you prepare for a trip? What kind of questions do you ask before you go camping, for a hike, for a trip to Disneyland? We met Cody at CH2M, the logistics and equipment provider for Arctic and Antarctic trips, including PolarTREC's. One of our other PolarTREC teachers, Mark P., told me, "I'm a gearhead!", and I think I am a little bit, too. I love to bike, hike, backpack, surf, and kayak, and each of those are in varying conditions that can leave you pretty miserable if you don't have the right clothes!

What kind of clothes does someone need to wear who will be digging in the dirt for cool artifacts in Northern Alaska in the summer time? Check out this video below to see!

Sat PhoneCheck out this satellite phone-- I can write email from it!

Do you use a cell phone? Do you send e-mail? Probably! But what do you do if you're not near a city? I'm going to be very remote-- that means far away from a lot of people, including cell phone towers, and we need to send our information, or data, by using satellites flying above us! Roy from Iridium came and kindly taught us all how to use it, and it was exciting to call friends and family using satellites flying high up in the sky!
