This is my homeroom class of third and fourth graders at Foothills Academy in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. These students come from Denver, Golden, Evergreen and the surrounding area. Notice some of the students are holding obsidian tools and flakes given to us by Dr. Jeff Rasic of the University of Alaska Museum of the North - one of the chief archaeologists leading this summer's expedition. During the last day of the school year, the students made signs and posed for pictures requested by The Denver Daily News. It was tough to say goodbye to the fourth graders - who I've been teaching for two years - but exciting to think of their adventures to come. The third graders will be fourth graders next year and can be leaders for the new third graders. Together these current third graders and I will learn a lot next year about the way archaeologists work. I'm hoping I can go visit these fourth graders in their new classes and work with them as well.
Max, kneeling, and Aidan, right, point to the site in the north western corner of Alaska where we'll be digging for 11,000-year-old stone tools and artifacts this summer. Kelley and Matt stand at left. These students have been working with maps and geography all year and can even define Longitude and Latitude!
After posing for a serious shot, we had to do a silly one!
Third and fourth graders know how to have fun! I'll miss you guys. Keep in touch with frequent questions on the Ask The Team link above. See you in the Fall!
