Last of the Tundra Swan in March Which way to lookToday, I may have seen the last of the tundra swans swimming in the waters of the Potomac River as they are preparing for their trip back home in the arctic regions. Flocks of swans come throughout late November and December, finding areas with underwater grasses called submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV). These grasses provide food for the swans throughout the winter months. They also provide protection for fish from predators.
