With two days to go, the time has come to start packing. I have a small selection of clothes, sleeping bag and pad, personal items and of course Extreme Cold Weather Gear (ECWG). Considering that my cold weather boots weigh five pounds, I am a bit concerned about fitting everything into the two large duffle bags that I will be taking to Siberia. For those of you that have not seen one of my school talks, you may be wondering what the ECWG is like. With apologies to MR. USA and thanks to photoshop... this short video will give you an idea...
P. S. After many weeks of delay, two days ago I received an email saying that the lake drilling had finally started, as I write, a new email arrived saying that today the drilling had reached 63m below the lake bottom. We estimate that this depth represents over 1 million years of sediment and climate history!
Stay Warm!
