Journal Entry
The arctic gear arrived at school, concealed in an oversized military-style camouflage duffel dag. "What’s in that?" "Can I look through it?" "You’re going to carry that thing?" These were some of the numerous questions thrown at me over a few days-until we opened it. Several willing volunteers stepped forward to model the clothing not remembering the 80 degree temperature in the classroom. Zach was chosen, and layered up. Lots of laughs later, we unfurled the sub-zero sleeping bag, and escorted him into it. With CJ at his side, he looked cozy, although was getting too warm very quickly.

CJ is our new traveling mascot, and will be invited to tavel with staff members as they set off on different adventures. His student-like perspectives and interests may give new insights into life on the road. Here he is at Chico Junior, and with our principal, Joyce Burdette, hoping to one day become as noble looking as the photo of his grandpa, seen behind her.
