Even in Antarctica folks overeat on Thanksgiving. It is so easy to do with the large amount of delicious treats around (see the previous journal). So, in order to offset the calories consumed, many members of the WAIS Divide crew ran the annual 5k Turkey Trot. The race course was difficult with a 1.5 mile hill. However, it was great weather for running in Antarctica! It was only -6F with the wind chill and the winds only gusted to 25 mph. As you can tell, running a 5K in Antarctica can introduce a few weather related issues.

Despite the weather, the WAIS Divide crew could not be deterred. We even went in goofy costumes. I ran in a banana suit and other folks wore crazy hats, sunglasses, and wigs. My friend Aron went as a green man (look at the pictures to see how green he really was!). Despite the bulk and difficulty of running dressed as a banana, I was still the second woman to cross the finish line! It was certainly a ton of fun. Maybe I will get to run again next year.
