Journal Entry

Today at orientation we mostly focused on travel logistics and cold weather gear. After lunch we got to practice using satellite phones and later went out to the CH2M HILL Polar Services warehouse. Robbie Score and her team gave us an excellent overview of clothing and packing for the polar regions.

I am also posting a video that I made during our outing yesterday. Enjoy!

Sí, soy yo. Es el ruido cuando se camina sobre nieve. Interesante, ¿verdad?

Armando Caussade

Armando,It is so great to have you here and get a chance to learn from you. This is a perfect expedition for you and I know you will have the time of your life at the South Pole! Thank you for sharing this week and adding your excitement to the training. We will be following your travels and looking forward to seeing the world through your eyes. Have fun and be safe.

Gracias, Martín. Me alegro que te interese y agradezco el apoyo que has mostrado.

Armando Caussade

Thank you John, that is awesome. I absolutely appreciate your mentoring, and -- as a matter of fact -- it was you who actually reviewed my first (February 10) ever journal entry, before going live here in the website. Your feedback there and throughout orientation has certainly been very beneficial. Will definitely keep you posted!

Can’t be prouder of you, your knowledge and willingness to share and communicate. I am sure that when you get back (to a much warmer environment) we will have fun hearing about your out and about on the “frosty “state.
The students are asking about you, and when you'll be back. So please take lots of photos and videos.
Have fun and learn a lot!!!!

Armando, like I always say- we learn by doing ....but we also have lots of fun learning how to do things. By the likes of your comments and photos that is exactly what you are doing and I can't be happier. I'll see you next week!!!!!

Buddy, definitely, after reading/viewing your Journals, as well the "Chilling" images, it is a "Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience" for you to treasure!!!! Kudos for you!!!!!! Thank you for sharing all of it with me!

Thank you, Willie! I would not be here if it were not for people like you who have unconditionally supported my career in astronomy and STEM education. I am glad that yo enjoyed it, and stay tuned. There is much more to come!

Armando Caussade

That is wonderful, Gretchen. And I also thank you for your unconditional support. Not everyone get the kind of backing you have provided, and I have told the people here all the great things that we have been doing for STEM education in Juncos, Puerto Rico.
I will be back early next week, and I am glad that students are so excited. I will be sharing everything with them and, yes, there are lots of pictures and videos. Thanks again, and I absolutely appreciate you taking the time to post here.

Armando Caussade

You are so right, Gretchen, and that is how things work here. I am glad that you like what you have seen, and yes, will be back next week to share my story. Thank you!
