Over 100 Submissions from Across the United States
Thank you to everyone who submitted a design for the Fly Your Flag at the South Pole Contest. I could not be more impressed with the submissions.
I received over 100, creative, unique designs from classrooms and families across the United States. Grade levels ranged from pre-kindergarten to seniors in high school.
A special shout out to the following classes for their outstanding entries:
- Ms. Potvin’s 3rd grade class at Glenwood Springs Elementary School (Glenwood Spring, CO)
- Mrs. Bickelhaupt’s high school art classes at Washington-Lee High School (Arlington, VA)
- Ms. Beyer’s 6th, 7th, and 8th grade HILT classes at Swanson Middle School (Arlington, VA)
- Ms. Johnson’s 4th grade class at Christopher House Elementary School (Chicago, IL)
- Ms. Derda’s 8th grade classes at Frost Middle School (Livonia, MI)
Right now, the IceCube research team is hard at work deciding which entries they will select as the winning designs. Winners will see a picture of their flag flying at the South Pole and will also receive some Antarctica goodies upon my return.
Sneak Peak
While we wait for the results, here’s a sneak peak at a few of my favorite designs from Washington-Lee High School's Art students:
