On the Road Again

We started the day off right with a big breakfast and a hot cup of tea in Hokitika. Then we hit the road again heading south. With rolling hills filled with lambs on the left and the Tasman Sea on the right, it was a beautiful ride.

As we drove, we passed several mountain runoff streams. The water was so clear and blue I felt like I was in a commercial for bottled water.

Franz Joseph Glacier

Soon we came the Franz Joseph Glacier. After a short hike in, we saw the glacier peaking through the clouds.

Mount Aspiring National Park

Continuing south, we passed through part of Mount Aspiring National Park. I cannot describe how stunning this landscape is…so let me show you.

WaterfallOne of the many waterfalls in New Zealand. The water appears out of nowhere on the side of the mountain, then falls hundreds of feet to the rocks below. LookoutAnother look at the Tasman Sea. LakeWanakaA view of Lake Wanaka, just outside Mount Aspiring National Park.

Boundary Creek

We found an awesome spot right on Lake Wanaka called Boundary Creek to camp for the night. Setting up our tent in the trees helped us hide from the wind, but we were still close enough to the beach to fall asleep to the sound of the waves crashing.

Camping2Another view of Laka Wanaka. Our campsite was a 10 second walk from this beach.
