Time Traveling
Hello friends. I am writing this from…the fuuuuuture. Well, kind of.
Today I arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand, completing two of the four flights that will take me to the South Pole. My journey began in Los Angeles with a 12 hour flight to Auckland, followed by a 1.5 hour flight to Christchurch.

Here is where the Clothing Distribution Center (CDC) is located and where I will get all my cold weather gear before officially heading to Antarctica. The trip felt long, but thankfully there were no major hiccups. I’ll be in Christchurch for at least two nights with this hotel’s all magical high-speed wi-fi.
Christchurch is beautiful. Here are a few takeaways so far:
-It smells lovely! So much green, paired with a crisp breeze.
-They drive on the opposite side of the road! That was a little unsettling during my shuttle ride to the hotel. It felt like we were getting away with something!
-I crossed the international date line and skipped November 25th. I really thought time traveling would feel more tingly.
-Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. I learned “Kia Ora” on the plane; it means “be well.”
I still have some daylight left to explore the city before tomorrow’s CDC orientation.
Talk soon, friends. Jocelyn
