Journal Entry

After seeing Scott's hut (see my previous journal for that!) we walked along a high rise and down to the Ob Tube, and observation tube inserted down through the ice so you can see under the ice. On the way there I snapped some pics.

We knew there were seals and even a few penguins around, but I didn't expect to get so close to a seal!

A total of six seals including a baby were basking on the ice.A total of six seals including a baby were basking on the ice. One seal and two penguins pictured. One seal and two penguins pictured. I thought these guys were enemies.

Finally we hit the Ob Tube. Here's a little Ob Tube intro: http://

Ms. Shirey heads down the Ob Tube. Here I go down under the ice. Looks a little like Mario, huh? The descent was about 25 feet: 15 feet of ice and then 10 below. You climb on welded metal rungs and then a rope ladder at the bottom. Underneath the ice.Underneath the ice I could see cool crystals, small white shrimp, coral on the sea floor, and I even saw a jellyfish. It was really hard to photograph down there, but I loved it! I even heard a seal sound, they sound like spaceships, really!
