Well, I'm packed and ready to roll. I managed to get everything I think I'll need for the next 5+ weeks into a rolling duffel, a camera bag/backpack, and my laptop bag. It helps when I'm moving to a big ship with lots of ammenities and climate control inside! Some of my cohort have to bring tents, sleeping bags, and a lot more outdoor clothes with them on their expeditions. Still, I brought a bunch of layers to use when I'm poking around Unalaska Island and for when I'm out on deck, though I'll also have the big Mustang Suit that the Coast Guard provides to wear over it all. The biggest pain was packing my Xtratuf insulated steel-toed neoprene boots (required for work on deck.) They are pretty heavy and really bulky but to conserve room I stuffed them full of socks, underwear, etc.
Bags packed & ready to go!
My radio interview that was going to be last Tuesday got bumped but I should be on the 8:00 - 8:30 hour (Mountain Time) tomorrow morning on KGNU. Check it out if you can!
I'll log on asap from up in Alaska so stay tuned- the plan is a couple of days at Dutch Harbor and Unalaksa Island before boarding the Healy.
That's all for now! Best- Bill
