Eight students from Greenland will be participating in JSEP this year, representing three of the four high schools in the country. They are: Makka Marcussen and Naasunnguaq Olsen from Aasiaat; John Peter Petersen, Lana Lovstrom, and Michael Bro from Nuuk; and Frederik Berthelsen, Nuka Otto Thomsen, and Sandra Mathiassen from Sisimiut. Below are quick introductions of the students from Aasiaat and Sisimiut. (The others will be posted next week.)
Makka Marcussen is a student at the high school in Aasiaat.
Hello my name is Makka Marcussen. I was born in Nuuk and I grew up in Nuuk, but we have moved to the north in 2008. I go to school in GU, in 2g. I am interested in chemistry and I think that chemistry is fun. I would like to experience something new; I like being in the nature and being outdoors. I like to hear some music and be with my friends.
Naasunnguaq Olsen is a student at the high school in Aasiaat..
My name is Naasunnguaq Olsen. I was born in Nuuk in the year of 1994, I'm from Ilulissat, and I am a senior student at GU Aasiaat, I want to be a teacher in Greenland, and I am interested in the nature, and I want to learn something more about nature.
I like to hang out with my friends, and I like to listen to music. I have three brothers, three sisters. In the summer we sail to other countries, to visit our family. Me and my family we are so near. And sometime someone of my friends can come with us, it is so fun!
I am so excited to meet others in summercamp in Kangerlussuaq, I hope we are gonna have some fun :)
Frederick Berthelsen - No Photo At This Time
Hello! My name is Frederik Berthelsen I am from Nuuk, but I am a student in HTX Sisimiut and I am 19 years old. I can’t wait to attend KFSF (Kangerlussuaq Science Field School). This will be the first time I try summer school. My interest to Science began long time ago, to pursuit a dream of working in Greenland Institute of Natural Resources. I want to fully understand Global Warming, because living in north I can see the effects. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music and playing it. I like to read, I enjoy hiking, and I like almost everything outside! I can’t wait to meet you all!
Nuka Otto Thomsen is a student at the high school in Sisimiut.
I’m 21 years old and this is my first year at school, my school located in Sisimiut, just north of my hometown. My hometown is Maniitsoq and I grew up there. Maniitsoq is a little town. I really like being in nature and just relaxing. I was lucky, so lucky! I send an application letter to the teacher but did not succeed. But later, the teacher wrote to me if I could come to summer school and I answer “yes”. This summer school is exciting because I have heard that there is something duties. And it’s more exciting because that I’m going to meet you, and it’s not often I meet other young people from abroad. I look forward to meeting you.
Sandras Mathiassen is a student at the high school in Sisimiut.
Hi, My name is Sandra Mathiassen, I am 20 years old. I come from Sisimiut, Greenland, and I have lived here my whole life. I am a high school student, in second year.
I can´t wait to see you, I am really excited. I really wanted to go to the summer school, because I know students who have participated earlier on, and I have heard that it will be fun. You will not regret it to be there. :) And I love to learn about new things. :D
I will see you in Kangerlussuaq, and it will be nice to meet you all. :) See you in June.
