The season is ending at WAIS Divide. Even though we are still drilling, many parts of camp are being taken down and packed away. Tomorrow, the satellite internet comes down. As a result, I will be unable to post for several days. I will possibly be back in the land of internet in a few days, depending on weather and our drill progress. We are continuing to get closer to our goal depth of 3,330 meters and hope to be there by the 28th of January. The ice we are drilling is now about 80,000 years old. Hopefully, we will reach ~100,000 years by the time we stop drilling at the end of the month.
Soon, I will be back sleeping in a warm bed! Even though I am excited to get back home, it is bittersweet to know that the end of the 2010-2011 season is near.
I will miss my tent. However, I am looking forward to sleeping in a warm bed!
