Traveling from California to the Arctic- Part 1

Today June 9th, I depart for my 23rd flight of 2016 and it is taking me on my first leg of my PolarTREC expedition to the Arctic by flying me all the way up to Alaska. By next Wednesday I will be at the Toolik Research station within the Arctic circle. I have a giant duffel of winter coats and pants provided by the program (Thanks ARCUS), toiletries, waterproof boots, industry grade bug gear (for all the millions of MOSQUITOES) and three pairs of gloves. I based a lot of my packing needs on the Toolik "What to bring list" seen here: http://toolik.alaska.edu/user_guide/what_to_bring.php

This is a photo of me and my gear saying goodbye to my dog Kai.

It is also the first of all the 30 flags that my classrooms decorated that will be posted on the bottom of all upcoming blogs! This flag belongs to Foshay Learning Center. Thanks Ms. Tigolo's class! Enjoy!
