Journal Entry

The Countdown is over!

The day has finally neared, I depart tomorrow morning for the Arctic! I have packed, and re-packed my bags, tried to ensure that I have everything I will need over the course of the next few weeks. It's been a process that's for sure, but I haven't been alone.

So before I head off I'll say a few thank you's to those who helped me arrive at this point!

  • There has been fantastic support from the brains of the PolarTREC organization Janet and Sarah, as well as some tech assistance from Ronnie.

  • A variety of gear was supplied and hand delivered by Robbie with CH2MHILL polar services

  • My students for assisting me with some wonderful species journals, social media outreach and excitement.

  • Coordination of my upcoming PolarConnect event with Chelsea and the Challenge Foundation, as well as Justin at SMA for helping tackle the tech hosting aspect. (Anyone around the Denver area on June 27th at 1:30pm MST should come view my webcast live from Toolik at St. Mary's in the forum! And for others not in the area, further instructions are available on how to connect and join the webcast here: http://www.polartrec.com/polar-connect/register )

  • Lots of patience, support and laughter from my husband, Ethan.

  • Tons of well wishes, smiles, words of wisdom and much more from my friends and family near and far! We even had an Arctic Blast Off BBQ with Alaskan themed food (salmon burgers, king crab legs, klondike bars, and some choice Alaskan brewed beverages)

So all of my bags are packed, I'm ready to go... talk to you next from Alaska!
