Journal Entry

While I was on the ship I wasn't able to upload videos because the internet connection was too slow. Now that I have a better connection, I'm doing a bit of "catch up" work. If you'd like a closer view of where I slept on the LMG, revisit my journal from 2-12-2012. I added a short video there!

Here's a video from Cierva Point, which I wrote about in my journal on 2-16-2012. Nick Haus, a soil scientist on Dr. Bockheim's team, was nice enough to shoot it while he was out with the other scientists looking for a study site near Argentina's Primavera Station, located on the western Antarctic peninsula. I particularly appreciate the footage of the gentoo penguins. He mentions that the penguins are fledging, which means they are about ready to leave the nest. When baby birds live in the nest they are called "nestlings" and when they leave the nest they become "fledglings."

The video is just a little bit shaky because he's walking down a rocky hill with a camera.

Enjoy!
