Journal Entry

Departure day is here! My procrastinator self managed to get packed by midnight last night. Well, mostly anyway. I finished writing a few cards to my family and headed to bed around 1am. Of course, sleep was not to be had. Excitement and nerves along with a long list of to-do items still remained on my list and prevented me from a final night of sleep in my own bed. At 7am, I decided it was time to get moving!

I managed to get in a bit of lab and homework correcting for my students and 30 min of tennis with my husband! After a quick shower, albeit, not as quick as the two minutes I will be allotted in Antarctica, I finished the last minute packing and my family and I headed out the door!

We stopped for breakfast and a quick detour at school so I could turn over my gradebook, keys and computer! Yikes, I wasn't quite done with grades but figured I could finish correcting on the plane. A tearful goodbye was had at General Mitchell and I was off.

I finished one set of labs between waiting for the plane and arriving in Chicago. I was shuttled to the 2nd plane and was off with a smoothie for the road (or air, I guess). I finished the 2nd set of labs and managed to read some pages of "The Climb" by Boukreev and DeWalt. I landed in LA and entered my grades. Complete. Now to get this journal entry finished so I can eat dinner and have a few minutes to chill before the 12.5 hour plane ride to Auckland!

Our plane is here. I like the Air New Zealand logo on its side – makes this journey seem a little more real!
