Opening boxes is full of anticipation. Scientists look like four year olds on their birthday hoping to find what they have always wanted. The difference here is that they actually packed the presents and are hoping to find them in good state. As soon as a box arrives to its destination on the lab, someone is there to open them and get to work. Here are Courtney, David ,and Dana opening boxes.
Looks like Courtney found what she was looking for. David looking for some treasure. " class= Some boxes are harder to open.Look at the bounty that some of the boxes have in them. Scientists would not be able to work if the precious cargo had been lost at sea.
Important cargo for scientific research.Time for the setup. Here is a time lapse video with part of the setup for the main lab. It has 7.5 hours of real time with a picture every 5 minutes. There is a break for the night. I was fortunate to pass by the recreation center when Ben was playing the guitar. I recorded his music and used it as the soundtrack for this short video.

Some pictures of the process:
Eugene mounting a large and sophisticated equipment Emily checking her equipment. David mounting equipmentAnd all this with incredible sense of humor. I am amazed as to how hard these folks work way into the night and early morning. Setting up the labs correctly ensures that we will get good quality data. Doing it fast means we get to begin sailing.
Even during hard work, everybody is in good spirits. Emily is a happy camper. We had some visitors as we are setting up the labs. At one of the briefing they told us it is illegal to get so close tot the animals around the base that they would react to our presence. No one said anything about what to do wan the animals get so close that we react to their presence.
Visitors get close tot he boat. Here is Dana with a couple of Adelies The penguin to the right is milting from its youth feathers. Adelie Molting AdelieThe sun does not settle after a hard days work, but it is getting close to doing so. Here is a midnight view of our wonderful home for the next months. Knowledge does not wait.
