Yesterday ended not until today with answering comments from the PolarTREC website. Great to get all the different comments and questions! Thank you all!
After breakfast the station conducted an emergency drill to practice every body’s skills and organization in case of an emergency.
I was allowed to take pictures from afar and follow the effort of about 100 people involved with a particular job. In addition, many volunteers were standing by to help out. It was good to see how well everybody was working together and that the station was well prepared for an emergency. All departments were involved and everybody knew what to do. Amy was part of the trauma group and Andy was one of the observers. Some people were playing trauma victims and had to act like they would be insured.
When the alarm went off the drill was to find a fire source in "summer-camp”, and then the drill was changed to a "MCI”, a "Mass Casualty Incident”.
**The Team behind the Drill ** BK, the Station Manager, Liza from communication, and Katie the winter-over station manager were in the building to orchestrate the emergency drill. *
Most vehicles needed Most vehicles were needed fro this drill for transportation back and forth to the Station.*
Andy as an observer Several observers like Andy were standing by observing the actions and giving an evaluation and feedback after the drill.*
All firemen involved! Besides the 4 firemen at the station, all volunteer firemen were involved in the drill as well.*
Responsible for transport equipment! Some people were responsible for getting equipment to transport the "make-believe-patients”*
Volunteer patient The volunteer trauma patient is being helped by the trauma-team-in-training.*
Practicing transport Snow mobiles were used to practice transport of "play-trauma-person”*
More Transport practice Some of the vans were used to practice the transport of pretend-insured-people*
Helping returning equipment At the end of the drill, all helped to return the equipment, like oxygen tanks.*
Returning to the station At the end of the drill, Ethan and Kathy, volunteer firefighters, are returning to the station.*
Firemen are pleased Fireman Dave from New Zealand and his coworkers are returning their equipment to the closets in the hallway of the main station. They were happy that all went well.*
Driver Holly Driver Holly insured her left foot while playing basket ball, however, she was still able to do her job, including during the drill.*
Merry Xmas to all! It was very calming to know that we at the station are very well prepared for an emergency. Hopefully a real emergency will never happen. Thank you to all at the station! Merry Christmas to everyone!*
Answering Student’s cards. I felt lucky that I could settle down in the "Quiet Reading Room” at the end of the day, feeling well protected. It was time to answer more of the 350 cards student gave me to sign, answer and return from the South Pole Station. I can not wait to tell them all the stories of this station.*
