"Celebrate good times, come on!" -Kool and the Gang
Join me on Friday, November 22nd (8:30 AM AKST, 9:30 AM PST, 10:30 AM MST, 11:30 AM CST, 12:30 PM EST) for a live event from McMurdo field station. I'll be streaming live from the Aquarium in the Crary Lab at McMurdo Station. Join in to learn more about the research, see the animals we've been studying, and ask questions! This presentation is geared for a K-12 audience but all are welcome! Tell your friends and your friends friends! (Especially tell your teacher friends)
To virtually attend you need to pre-register. Find out more and pre-register by going to the PolarTREC website at www.polartrec.com or clicking HERE. Choose November 22 Amy Osborne under the drop down menu. (You can also check out PolarTREC educator Denise Hardoy's event on November 20th!)
I hope you can join in this celebration of Antarctica and learning!!!
I love celebrations. In fact, one of my favorite books is I'm in Charge of Celebrations by Byrd Baylor.
Despite a few challenges including some power blips and limited water use around town recently, our research team has a few reasons to celebrate. One of our mating pairs of sea spiders now has eggs that the male is carrying around! One member of our research team, Aaron, has a birthday coming up. AND...we saw a penguin!!!
Check out this male sea spider carrying around three egg masses. While not the eggs from the current mating sea spiders, this photo shows what it looks like when a male is carrying around three egg masses at once!
This male sea spider, Ammothea, is carrying around three egg masses. Crary Lab, McMurdo Station, AntarcticaYay Aaron! Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to Aaron Toh, one of the divers and members of the marine invertebrate research team at McMurdo Station, Antaractica.Find out more about penguins and see the Adélie that we saw by clicking on the video below.
Also, on a personal note, my friends Gisela and Jake just had a baby. Congratulations you two and welcome to the world little Sofia!
