Orientation and training
A chance meeting while running a hiking trip 3 years ago in the Adirondacks led me to PolarTREC. Dr. Amy Leventer of Colgate University was on that trip. Dr. Leventers’ experiences travelling and studying in Antarctic were so intriguing to me. My experiences in Outdoor Studies at the high school level led her to ask the question.’ I know of this great experience for teachers would you consider applying?’ My first 2 applications resulted in making the final pool of applicants but not making the final cut. However the third time was a charm.
I am deeply grateful to Dr. Leventer, PolarTREC , ARCUS and my school Parishville-Hopkinton for this opportunity. I believe education and legislation to be the best ways to make positive change. It is vital that the public and lawmakers have the facts. I hope this adventure will help me in provide that.
In closing the last 4 days travelling to and training in Fairbanks have been busy. I however am more excited than ever. We have an amazing group of staff, teachers and researchers “on board”. Please take the opportunity to follow the vital work as well as the fun of these expeditions. A chance meeting while running a hiking trip 3 years ago in the Adirondacks led me to PolarTREC.
