Species Diversity

So far in our samples we have seen three different species of tardigrades: Acutuncus spp. Macrobiotus spp. and Milnesium spp. Tardigrades are much less abundant in the dry valley soil ecosystems than nematodes. For the samples we collected in Miers Valley we found thousands of nematodes and only one tardigrade. Today I just wanted to share a picture of a tardigrade egg from the Macrobiotus spp. and this short video clip that shows the three species of tardigrades we have found so far.

Tardigrade EggThis egg belongs to a Macrobiotus spp. The ornate surface of the egg is typical of many species of tardigrades.
