What do you do on a ship during a storm?

Why it's movie night of course!

No nets in the water with these waves so it's movie night! No nets in the water with these waves so it's movie night! Fingers crossed that we can still send the CTD Rosette down. September 6, 2017. Photo by Lisa Seff.

Compare and Contrast!

Go back and forth between this weather forecast journal and the last two weather forecast journals. Do you see any trends happening over time? Look at the weather information for Hurricane Irma. Do you see any trends there? Any relationships, inverse or direct between two variables for either Hurricane Irma or the weather coming into our area on the Beaufort Sea? Let me know in the Ask the Team section of this journal!

Was the ship so rocky that you had to hold on to something wherever you went or could you walk around easily?

Jaye D.

Before the ship left the dock did the team go over safety procedures for different weather situations?

Lisa Seff

Hi Nichole-lol, yes there were many times where you had to hold on to something. The funniest times were going up the inside stairs, which were pretty steep, but if you timed the waves right, you could almost go downhill the entire way up the stairs....which was pretty funny! Other days were calm, and while still rolling, you could figure out the pattern and just adjust your walk so you didn't have to actually hold on to something.take care,
Lisa

Hi Jaye-yes they did. And when it got rough going on deck was not an option.take care,

I'm really enjoying your adventure- thanks! Hold on tight and enjoy the ride in the upcoming rough weather.

Lisa Seff

Hi Bill! I'm glad you're joining us! (:
Thought of you the other night, we're hoping for a good aurora siting next week as we head through the Strait!  Not sure I'll get a photo like yours, but we'll try our best.  Rough weather has subsided quite a bit, so was able to move from sleeping with immersion suit next to the bed rail, to the life vest!  They had the decks locked down for about 36 hours, but we were still able to run the CTD.
Great ship though so no worries!
take care, nice to hear from you!
Lisa
