First Day of Orientation

My first official day of orientation started early. I woke at what I thought was 6:00 a.m., however, my 'internal' clock was still on 'Memphis time'. Because of the three-hour time difference between Memphis (Central Time Zone) and Fairbanks (Alaskan Time Zone), I was actually up at 3:00 a.m. Yikes, that’s early!

After a quick morning run (inside of course because it was below 0°), a shower and a bite to eat, I was ready to begin the day and was as excited as my first day of elementary school.

Today was a day of introductions – to the program, trainers, participants and equipment.

The program is a well structured, amazing profession development opportunity for teachers. It is designed to improve science education, support climate research and promote science literacy – thanks National Science Foundation for your support! The trainers proved to be supportive, informative, encouraging and helpful – they are going to be a wonderful resource. The other participants were every bit as excited as I was to be there, and the energy in the training room was full of anticipation.

Can’t wait for tomorrow to learn more!
