In case you are not familiar with the Antarctica R.A.W. challenge – check out this journal

Are you ready for the November Antarctica R.A.W. topic?

And the topics are… drum roll…

The selected animal is the PENGUIN and the science subjects are GLACIERS, SNOW, or ICE.

To get you in the mood - check out this picture from some of the Weddell seal team.

Are you up for the challenge?

If so, here’s a reminder as to how this challenge works.

  • READ a book
  • Create an ART project or
  • WRITE about the selected ‘topic of the month’

A bit more information…

  • PENGUIN – Of the 17 species of penguins worldwide 7 are considered ‘Antarctic Penguins’ – they are:
    • Adélie penguins
    • Chinstrap penguins
    • Emperor penguins
    • Gentoo penguins
    • King penguins
    • Macaroni penguins
    • Rockhopper penguins

The two species I will most likely see while I’m in Antarctica are the Adélie and the Emperor penguins. Try to select one of these penguins for your project.

  • GLACIERS, SNOW, or ICE – There is a lot you can do with these subjects. Get creative!

Point system for the Antarctic R.A.W. challenge

  • 5 points for each ART or WRITING project your complete
  • 5 points for each 20 pages you read (So, if you read a book that has 100 pages – You would get 25 points – Wow). If the book is under 20 pages you still get 5 points!
  • 10 points if you send me a picture of you (or your class) with your project. For example - send me a picture of you reading a book, or with your completed art project or maybe reciting an Antarctic poem to your family or your class.

As a reminder – if you are reading a large book that may take longer than one month to read. No Problem! In fact that is fantastic! Just send me the number of pages you finished during the month and your points count!

Remember, the more projects you do, the more points you'll receive!
