Competition anyone?

My team members are all very driven! And, I've quickly learned that this 'drive' often turns into a friendly competition. So, what started out yesterday as a nice leisurely stroll through the gardens, turned into an intense photo competition between the two graduate students on our team: Kim and Patrick.

Later that evening, while we were waiting for our ice flight, these two students spent hours selecting the 'perfect' photos for the competition. And yes, a few friendly bets were wagered.

The Rules

The rules and procedures of this 'little battle' are simple.

  • Each competitor selects three photos to enter.
  • The selected photos are viewed by the rest of the team.
  • Voters select their top three choices.
  • A winner is selected during each round. For example, I selected two of Patrick's photos and only one of Kim's photos. So, Patrick won round #1.
  • After all the rounds are tallied - an ultimate winner is selected - with all appropriate bragging rights, of course!

This competition was a blast! So, I asked Kim and Patrick if they wanted a few more voters. My thought was to get YOUR input. They eagerly agreed! I think this will take their competition to a totally different level.

The Plan and Procedure

The plan is to do a weekly photo contest - hopefully during the first part of each week. But I'm sure you understand, work comes first, so we apologize now if we are a little slow in getting these challenges out. You - the voters - will need to submit your votes through the 'Ask the Team' section of my website - and feel free to ask a question while you are at it!

Here are the procedures:

  • Go to the 'Ask the Team section of my web page: http://www.polartrec.com/forum/weddell-seals-in-the-ross-sea
  • Click on the New Topic button.
  • Enter the photo contest title in the Subject line. For example, 'FAUNA FLICKS'
  • Enter your votes in the Body section - see sample below. Feel free to provide your name and/or school - if appropriate.
  • Click the send button. (Sometime it will ask for certain verifications).

If for some reason you can't get this to work, you can always e-mail your entry to me at aeilers [at] polartrec.com. Please remember to put the photo challenge topic in the subject.

Voting example

  • First selection - photo #004
  • Second selection - photo #005
  • Third selection - photo #001

Are you ready for the first challenge?

We are titling this challenge 'FLORA FLICKS' - and here are the entries.
