So now that we've covered WHY I'm in the Arctic, let's talk a little bit more about WHERE I'll be going on my expedition.
Over the next four weeks I will covering a LOT of ground. I'll begin in the northernmost city in the United States, Utqiaġvik (formerly know as Barrow) working with Dr. Craig Tweedie's from University of Texas at El Paso. Then I'll take a small plane to the village of Atqasuk for a day to visit schools with Dr. Jennifer Watts in conjunction with the The Arctic Classroom project. Things will settle down a for a bit when I fly to Fairbanks (regular commercial plane) for a week to work with Christina Minions. Then begins the great road trip – Fairbanks to Toolik Field Station, to Prudhoe Bay, back to Fairbanks – which will take about a week as well (podcast recommendations welcome in the comments section!) For the final week, Christina, Dr. Watts and I will all come together in Fairbanks to wrap things up. SPOILER ALERT: This final week in Fairbanks will include a visit to the permafrost tunnel.
Here is a Google Tour I created to briefly SHOW you what this all looks like. Don't be shy, click on it and zoom to all the locations.
