Arriving to Olinca today, you could feel the excitement in the air. Today, Mexico would be playing Uruguay in the World Cup. All of the students came to school wearing their green and black jerseys supporting their home team. Girls had red, green and white ribbons in their hair and many children had their faces painted! It was going to be an exciting day! Megan and I even went shopping for jerseys last night so that we could join in the spirit!

While our hosts were taking their "end of the year exams", we practiced our presentation again! The Ohio delegation will be doing a Powerpoint presentation, singing the National Anthem, saying the Pledge of Allegiance and dancing the Electric Slide and the Chicken dance. We have a Dum Dum sucker for each Olinca student...did you know they were made in OHIO??

At 9:00 am all of the students, teachers, custodians, maintainance workers (EVERYONE!!) gathered into the audutoriums (there are more than one) to watch the game on the big screens. The student were chanting and yelling, waving flags and cheering! It was something we have never experienced in American schools! It was exciting but unfortunately, Mexico lost to Uruguay 0-1.

I also took a picture of each of the students with their hosts today! When we chatted about their evening slast night, most of the boys said they played video games/wii. Addie and Reni played hide and seek in their bathing suits. Grant talked about eating corn on the cob with mayonnaise and cheese on it! He said Chris ate a chicken leg and it was the WHOLE leg...FEET and all! He said he had two nibbles of the feet! Justin stayed after school to watch Adrian's karate class. They are really becoming part of a new school family!
