Journal Entry

Still Traveling!!

Another entry today...I want the Google Earth map on my Home page to reflect all of the stops I made today! I arrived in Minneapolis-St. Paul after a bumpy flight, the most turbulent flight on which I have ever flown. Initially upon leaving Dayton International Airport, we flew at 24,000 feet – much lower than regular commercial flights. After a good while, we dropped down even lower to find smoother air.

In Minneapolis, I met up with Dr. Carin Ashjian and the team of scientists and researchers from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. I will be spotlighting each of them and their unique attributes, skills and knowledge over the next six weeks. Phil, Bob, Celia, Donna, Kristina, Carin and I got to know each other over a great lunch.

The Science Team waits...The science team waits for our flight to Anchorage!

Charles Schultz, the creator of The Peanuts comics, was born in Minneapolis. It seemed a fitting tribute there were the giant Snoopy statues placed around the airport. I got my picture with a one of them!

My alarm went off in Ohio this morning at 9:00 am. I am flying west and traveling through 4 time zones. When I finally get to Anchorage tonight, it will be 8:30 Alaska time and 12:30 am Eastern Time. We will be settling in to our hotel and going out for dinner after midnight at home! It will take a bit for my body to adjust!!

Question of the Day

At what altitude does the average commercial airliner travel?

Stayed tuned to this journal as I begin making my way to the USCG Cutter Healy!! Until then...
