Mike, I was wondering if you will be using any dog teams while you were in Antarctica, like the dog sled teams from the Disney Movie "Eight Below"? Are there any "pet" animals in Antarctica? Or just wildlife? -Mac

Hey Mac, Good question. No pets or working animals are allowed in Antarctica
any more. Ponies and sled dogs were used by the early Antarctic
explorers about 100 years ago, when they tried to get to the South Pole
for the first time. Sled dogs were used throughout the Antarctic
programs until the mid-1980s. The last sled dogs left the Antarctic
continent in 1993. This has all been part of the Antarctic Treaty,
signed by many countries, and whose goal is to keep Antarctica as
pristine as possible.
Great question! Even though there are no dogs here, there is a lot
of wildlife. Yesterday, we saw some seals. I can't wait to share it
with you. Check back for some photos of the Antarctic wildlife!
