Dr. Wing,Great question! You have done your research on McMurdo. Yes, there is
a greenhouse here on station, but it is used in a limited capacity.
Unfortunately, for our team, the greenhouse was used for the
winter-overs, but was closed down just before our arrival. The
beginning of WinFly puts too many people on station for the greenhouse
to keep up.
In the winter, with fewer people on station, the greenhouse can provide
enough lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs to keep people in the freshies.
Plus, it's a great place to go, escape the cold, and see some green plants.
