Hi Mike!

I'm here again with my Polar Ambassador group. They are getting ready to teach a hands-on lesson to 8th graders about ocean acidification. We've been reading about the topic and wonder if there are any scientists at McMurdo who are doing research about ocean acidification? It looks like your days are packed full. Are you getting to meet many other researchers?

Your latest photos are great-especially the volcano sponge!

Keep in touch! Nell

Hi Nell,So I've been saving your question for a while for two reasons:
1. I had to do some research on ocean acidification, and
2. There was only one other research group here.
Since you posted, we have started Main Body and just the first three
flights brought 6-8 more science groups. They are studying everything
from the sea ice to the emperor penguins. One of these groups is Dr.
Gretchen Hoffman's group. They will be looking at ocean acidification
in McMurdo Sound and its effects on sea urchins.
You can learn more about their project at their web site. Just [click

Thanks for the question. Sorry for the delayed response.

AWESOME! Thanks so much and no worries about the delay. We've really enjoyed reading your journals and are glad you are home safely. I'll bet your students are so excited to have you back.--Nell
